Fort Worth Spinks Airport Master Plan Up for City Council Approval

Fort Worth Spinks Airport, the city’s newest airport, has grown significantly over its 36 years of operation, establishing itself as one of North Texas’ premier general aviation facilities. To ensure it meets future aviation demands and continues to drive growth, a master plan is being prepared.

The City Council will consider a resolution to adopt this new master plan for Spinks Airport on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Purpose of the Plan

The master plan will guide leaders in allocating Aviation Department resources for future airport development. It provides a vision for airport development, guidelines for growth, and a rationale for projects eligible for federal and state funding. The FAA recommends updating long-term planning documents every seven to 10 years or as needed; Spinks’ master plan was last updated in 2004.

Developments So Far

In 2022, Fort Worth received a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation to revise the Spinks Airport Master Plan. KSA Engineers Inc. was selected as the project consultant. A Planning Advisory Committee was established, including key stakeholders such as airport tenants, pilots, businesses, representatives from TxDOT’s Aviation Division, and several City departments. The City’s Aviation Advisory Board provided feedback, recommendations, and final endorsement. Five public meetings were held to solicit comments and feedback.

Next Steps

If approved by City Council on Aug. 13, the master plan will then be reviewed and approved by the FAA and TxDOT-Aviation.
