Irving ISD Superintendent of Schools Magda A. Hernández has been named the first recipient of the Power of Inspiration Award. The award was presented at the 5th Annual Leadership Summit for Women District Leaders earlier this month.

Superintendent Hernández showcased the Magda A. Hernández Institute of Wellness and Professional Learning at the summit with a presentation titled "From Inspiration to Action: Building a Wellness Culture." A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility was held on July 24.

Board Vice President A.D. Jenkins presented the award to Superintendent Hernández during the event. “We know our Superintendent is a trendsetter, a big dreamer,” he says. “Out of everyone in attendance at the conference, our very own Superintendent was given this award.”

The Leadership Summit for Women District Leaders, launched in 2019, emerged from research and dialogues with district administrators nationwide. The summit focuses on the challenges and balancing acts faced by women in district leadership roles.

Big Deal Media, the summit's organizers, emphasized the importance of wellness in leadership, which has gained prominence especially during the pandemic. The 2024 summit highlighted the integration of well-being into effective leadership, with Superintendent Hernández and her institute recognized as exemplars of this approach.
