Holiday Heights Elementary in North Richland HIlls is currently without power after a truck struck a power pole at the school. All students and staff are reported safe, and school operations are continuing as normal since classrooms have windows. The school will release students at the regular time, and those in after-school care will be relocated to the gym, which still has power. Oncor expects full power to be restored by tomorrow.
This is the second incident at the school on Monday, September 16. Earlier in the day, the music teacher was hit by a car while working the crosswalk in front of the school. Fortunately, his injuries are not life-threatening, but he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The driver indicated that the rising sun impaired visibility.
Birdville ISD released a statement urging drivers to remain cautious: "Please remember to stay alert and slow down when driving near our schools. Whether it is the sunrise, rain, or other distractions, being cautious can prevent accidents and keep our students and staff safe."
