The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding residents about the iWatchTexas program, a vital tool for reporting suspicious activities or behaviors in schools and communities, ahead of National “If You See Something, Say Something” Awareness Day on September 25.
“Our state is safer when we all do our part to speak up if we see something strange or suspicious,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “Through the iWatchTexas program, Texans can quickly and easily communicate with law enforcement officers and help protect our state.”
The iWatchTexas program allows individuals to report activities that may indicate criminal, terroristic, or school safety-related threats. Reports can be submitted through the mobile app, the website www.iwatchtx.org, or by calling 1-844-643-2251. Each report is reviewed by law enforcement analysts, and all reports remain confidential. Optional contact information can be provided for follow-up questions.
DPS encourages the public to report any of the following behaviors:
- Comments made about harming others
- Strangers inquiring about building security features
- Social media posts threatening school attacks
- Requests for sensitive information like blueprints or security plans
- Purchasing materials that could be used to make weapons
- Taking photos or videos of security systems
The iWatchTexas app is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Texans are urged to download it now.
For emergencies, DPS reminds Texans to call 911 instead of using iWatchTexas.
