Mansfield Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old male in the 800 block of Cutting Horse Drive. On Thursday, September 19, 2024, at approximately 4:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they found the unresponsive victim, who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Citizens were performing CPR when officers arrived, and Mansfield Fire Department medics continued life-saving measures before transporting the victim to a local hospital. Despite these efforts, the teenager was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The next day, on September 20, Mansfield Police arrested 21-year-old Elijah Hatton in connection with the fatal shooting. Detectives worked through the night, identifying a suspect vehicle and locating it at an apartment complex in East Dallas. Hatton was taken into custody without incident and is now facing murder charges.
