Last night at approximately 11:30 PM, the Sansom Park Police Department responded to a report of a physical disturbance and verbal threats occurring inside a residence in the 3000 block of Biway Street. Upon arrival, officers assessed the situation and discovered an elderly male lying injured in the kitchen, while another male had locked himself in a bedroom to escape the subject.
The suspect remained in the residence and had made verbal threats to a witness outside who was attempting to check on the elderly male. This raised concerns of a potential hostage situation, prompting the call for additional agencies and resources due to fears that the male inside may have had a firearm.
Officers devised a tactical plan to rescue the injured male, who was close to a back door. They successfully entered the residence through the kitchen door, bringing the injured male to safety before retreating to take cover outside.
A hostage negotiator from the River Oaks Police Department attempted to communicate with the suspect via loudspeaker, but the individual did not comply with commands. To assess the situation further, a drone from the White Settlement Police Department was deployed inside the home. Using the drone footage, officers executed a second tactical entry, locating and detaining the suspect without incident. The male who had been locked in the bedroom was also safely rescued.
The Sansom Park Police Department expressed gratitude to the River Oaks Police Department, Lakeside Police Department, White Settlement Police Department, Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, Sansom Park Fire Department, and MedStar Mobile Healthcare for their assistance in ensuring the safety of all involved and achieving a peaceful outcome.
