In a case of attempted sexual assault, 25-year-old Bakail Wonodi of Irving has been sentenced to five years of probation. The incident occurred on December 11, 2022, at approximately 10:30 AM, when the victim was returning to her apartment at the Alesio Apartments located in the 300 block of E. Las Colinas Blvd.
The victim was ambushed in a stairwell by Wonodi, who attempted to sexually assault her. However, she was able to fight him off, preventing the assault from being completed. Following the attack, Detective Hilton of the Irving Police Department reviewed surveillance footage from the complex, which showed the defendant wearing a distinctive FedEx hoodie.
As a result of the footage, a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert was issued. Multiple tips from the public helped identify Wonodi, and his identity was later confirmed through FedEx employment records.
Following a guilty verdict, Wonodi was sentenced to probation, reflecting the serious nature of the offense and the victim’s courage in resisting the attack.
