Two SMU Students Surrender After Assault and Burglary Incident

The Southern Methodist University (SMU) Police Department reported that two students surrendered to authorities late Monday night, September 23, 2024, in connection with a burglary and assault case. The incident in question involved an assault on a fellow student that occurred in the Ware Residential Commons around 12:30 a.m. on September 20.

According to police, the victim was physically assaulted in his room by three unknown males. He believes he was targeted in retaliation for a prior incident. The suspects, described as white males in their early twenties, were wearing distinct clothing: one had on a black ski mask with a white shirt and black pants, the second was in dark clothing, while the third wore dark pants paired with a light-colored shirt.

On the evening of September 20, the SMU Police identified the two individuals suspected of the assault and burglary. Arrest warrants were subsequently issued for both. The police department expressed gratitude to the university community for their swift assistance in providing information related to the suspects.
