Frisco Police Capture Fleeing Suspect After Dramatic Traffic Stop and Foot Chase

Daniel Ryan Keith

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at approximately 1:13 p.m., the Frisco Police Department arrested a suspect who evaded capture following a traffic stop for running a red light. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Daniel Ryan Keith, initially provided a fictitious name and date of birth to the officer.

The stop occurred near the intersection of Preston Road and Stonebrook Parkway. Upon investigation, the officer discovered that Keith had an outstanding probation violation warrant related to a family violence offense. Information from a prior call indicated that he was known to carry a weapon.

While waiting for backup, the officer observed Keith exiting his vehicle. Despite orders to stay inside, he fled on foot across Preston Road toward the First Frisco Global Methodist Church at 7659 Preston Road. Officers pursued him and maintained visual contact but lost track of him on the south side of the church. Staff at the church confirmed that Keith had entered the main building.

In response, officers quickly established a perimeter around the area and contacted the church's preschool, which was immediately placed on lockdown. Officers determined that Keith was isolated in a building separate from the preschool, and arrangements for student pickup were coordinated with the church staff.

Once Frisco SWAT arrived on the scene, attempts were made to contact Keith by phone, urging him to surrender. After failing to establish contact, a methodical room-by-room search of the main building began, utilizing drones to assist. Officers received information indicating that Keith was hiding in the ceiling of a specific area within the building.

Shortly thereafter, SWAT teams made contact with Keith, apprehending him without further incident. He was transported to the Frisco Detention Facility, where he was booked on the outstanding warrant and charged with running a red light, expired registration, failure to identify as a fugitive, and evading arrest or detention on foot. The total bond for the warrant and charges amounted to $53,000.

"I'd like to express my appreciation for the skill, patience, and resolve exhibited by the officers in this incident," said Frisco Police Chief David Shilson. "By quickly establishing a perimeter, utilizing the tools available to them, and collaborating with the church staff, their actions contributed to the capture of this subject while ensuring the children returned home to their parents safely. I'd also like to thank the church staff for their quick thinking and assistance, which most certainly contributed to a positive outcome in this incident."

"This incident underscores the need to provide our officers with excellent tools and training, and I'm thankful for the unwavering support for public safety provided by our city leadership and community," Chief Shilson added.
