At approximately 1:45 A.M., Irving Police responded to an auto theft in progress in the 1500 block of Meridian Drive North Irving. The victim of the theft was actively pursuing the stolen vehicle, leading officers to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect, however, refused to comply, sparking a high-speed chase.
The pursuit led officers into the 6500 block of Singleton Blvd in Grand Prairie, where the suspect encountered a dead end. Desperate to evade capture, the suspect rammed multiple Irving police vehicles. Despite repeated commands to exit the vehicle, the suspect showed no signs of surrender, continuing to accelerate and make impact with the police units on scene. The officers discharged their weapons on the suspect.
The suspect sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Upon release, the suspect will face charges and be taken into custody.
The Irving Police Department is working closely with the Grand Prairie Police Department to investigate the incident. Standard criminal and administrative investigations have been launched by Irving PD to review the officers' use of force during the pursuit. In addition, Grand Prairie police will collaborate with the Dallas County Public Integrity Unit to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
