On Monday, September 30, 2024, a 911 call reporting a weapon on the Richland High School campus prompted a swift response from the North Richland Hills Police Department (NRHPD). The school was placed on lockdown at approximately 1:15 p.m. as officers and school administration conducted a thorough search of the premises.
Following the investigation, authorities determined that the call was a hoax and that there was no actual threat to the campus. The lockdown has since been lifted, although the campus will remain in a "hold" status until all classrooms are released.
Birdville Independent School District (ISD) reassured students, parents, and staff that the District takes all threats very seriously, emphasizing that the safety of students and staff is their highest priority. The District stated that individuals making threats against others or the school would face disciplinary actions according to District policy and could also face criminal charges. They reminded the community that making threats against a school, whether real or a hoax, is a serious crime.
