On Thursday, October 10, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., the White Settlement Police Department responded to John Peter Smith Hospital after being notified that a male victim in his 20s had arrived with a gunshot wound to his leg and a head injury from being pistol-whipped. Officers made contact with the victim in the hospital, where he recounted the events leading up to the shooting and robbery.
The victim stated that he had driven to the 7700 block of Abbott Drive to meet an acquaintance who requested to purchase vapes and rolled marijuana cigarettes. During the encounter, two suspects allegedly ambushed him, robbing him at gunpoint of the vapes, marijuana, and other personal property. After complying with the robbers, the victim attempted to flee the scene in his car when he heard multiple gunshots and felt pain in his leg, realizing he had been shot. The victim then drove to a friend's location before being transported to the hospital for treatment.
White Settlement police responded to the crime scene and recovered three projectiles, confirming the use of firearms during the robbery. Investigators quickly identified the primary suspect as 18-year-old Victor Escamilla Enriquez III. On Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:55 a.m., officers located Enriquez exiting a vehicle near a convenience store in the 1400 block of S. Cherry Lane. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the White Settlement Law Enforcement Center Jail. The vehicle Enriquez had been traveling in was also seized as evidence.
Enriquez has been charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first-degree felony, while the investigation into a potential second suspect remains ongoing.
“Incredible work by our patrol, dispatch, and investigative teams in getting this dangerous shooting suspect into custody within 36 hours of the offense,” said Chief of Police Christopher Cook. “We will vigorously pursue violent crime, drug crime, and gun crime that occurs in our city. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication that our public safety teams provide to our community."
