Grammy Award nominee and country music icon Janie Fricke will be a special guest performer at Wilmer’s Pioneer Days on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Fricke, a longtime Wilmer resident, will take the main stage from 8 to 11 p.m., performing alongside the headlining band, Dr. Honky Tonk, where her husband, Jeff Steele, plays drums. Steele is also a member of the Wilmer City Council.
This will be Fricke’s first time performing at Pioneer Days, which marks the city's 40th annual celebration. Fricke is known for charting seventeen top-ten singles and eight number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, with fan favorites like "Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me Baby," "He’s a Heartache," and "Tell Me a Lie."
Wilmer’s Pioneer Days runs from October 25 to 27, 2024, at 201 I-45, behind Denny’s. The weekend festivities will include live music, food trucks, games, a parade, and more. Mayor Sheila Petta encourages residents and visitors to join the celebration of Wilmer’s unique history.
The event kicks off on Friday, October 25, with a city-wide parade and a performance by Pression from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday features music throughout the day, including Fricke’s performance, and trick-or-treating from 6 to 9 p.m. The celebration wraps up on Sunday with Quimikos del Son performing from 1 to 5 p.m.
