DeSoto Woman Shoots Armed Intruder Attempting to Break into Her Home

On Friday, November 8, 2024, DeSoto police responded to a call at approximately 7:54 p.m. reporting an armed man attempting to break into a home in the 400 block of Raintree Circle. The female resident had called 911, stating that an unknown male suspect, armed with a pistol, was trying to force his way into her house through the rear garage door. Dispatch could hear screams and yelling on the line, while multiple neighbors called to report hearing gunshots in the area.

Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found the resident outside her home, who reported that she believed she had shot the intruder. Police searched the property and discovered the suspect lying in the garage with gunshot wounds to his chest and face. A pistol was found next to the suspect, who was identified as 35-year-old Octavio Flores Mondragon. Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived to transport him to a local hospital in critical condition.

The victim reported noticing a dark truck following her into her neighborhood, which then pulled into her rear driveway. Feeling threatened, she quickly entered her home, called 911, and armed herself with a pistol. When the suspect attempted to break into her home, she fired multiple shots, stopping the intruder.

Flores Mondragon has been charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Another Felony, a first-degree felony. Police recovered the firearm believed to be his at the scene. No motive has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
