In the early hours of Sunday, November 10, 2024, a fire broke out in an apartment complex on the 300 block of Parkwood in Granbury, prompting a 12:50 a.m. 911 call to Hood County Emergency Services. Upon arrival, Granbury Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD) firefighters were informed by dispatchers that a child was trapped in a second-floor bedroom.
Firefighter B. Serratelli from GVFD's Engine 1 crew set up a ladder to the bedroom window, allowing North Hood County firefighter J. Head to reach and rescue the child from the burning apartment. The child was handed off to Texas EMS for treatment before being airlifted to Fort Worth for advanced medical care.
Additional support was provided by GVFD’s Incident Commander B. Snyder, North Hood County firefighter P. Smith, Tolar Fire Department, Indian Harbor Fire Department, and Station 70 Fire Department. The fire departments emphasized their commitment to high training standards, noting that while they are volunteers, they operate as professional responders.
