On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a disturbance call in the 1900 block of Riverway Drive in Pleasant Grove, near WW Samuell High School. Upon arrival, officers discovered 69-year-old Veronica Renteria-Lopez, who appeared to have been shot. Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The suspect, 77-year-old Francisco Rodriguez-Amaya, was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife. According to police documents, Rodriguez-Amaya told investigators that he had confronted his wife after suspecting infidelity following 47 years of marriage. He reported that after noticing her unusual behavior and receiving suspicious text messages on her phone, he confronted her again. When she denied the accusations, he shot her in the chest, believing the shot would not kill her. Afterward, he threw her on the bed and strangled her. Police later recovered the firearm used in the crime from a dresser drawer.
