DeSoto Police arrested 19-year-old Jazion Lederrick Williams of DeSoto on Monday, November 25, after he was caught fleeing the scene of a shooting and found with an AR-15 style pistol in his backpack.
Around 9:30 p.m., emergency dispatchers received multiple reports of an unknown male firing a weapon in the 200 block of North Hampton Road. Officers arrived in the area within two minutes and quickly found the suspect hiding in the backyard playground of a daycare center. Williams, carrying a backpack, fled the scene on foot, jumping a fence behind the daycare.
DeSoto Police deployed a drone and K9 unit to assist in the search. The drone operator located Williams moving east in front of a local church, and officers pursued him through the neighborhood. Williams was apprehended near Chattey Road.
During the arrest, police discovered an AR-15 style pistol in the backpack. Williams was charged with "Evading Arrest or Detention" and "Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon," both Class A misdemeanors. Over fifteen spent rifle casings were recovered from the daycare's backyard, where the suspect had initially been spotted.
DeSoto Police thanked the public for their timely reports, which were instrumental in locating and arresting the suspect without further incident.
