On November 26, 2024, Addison police officers responded to a report of a man attempting to use counterfeit $100 bills at Sidecar Social on Belt Line Road. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had left the bar, but the manager suspected he was at a nearby establishment, Vidorra.
Officers located the suspect as he exited Vidorra and attempted to detain him. The man resisted arrest, attempting to pull away, but officers subdued him after a brief struggle.
A search of the suspect revealed several forged $100 bills, thousands of dollars in cash, and receipts from multiple restaurants in the 5100 Belt Line area. Investigators determined the suspect had been using counterfeit bills to make small purchases at local businesses, receiving significant amounts of change in return—a pattern of fraudulent activity.
Police contacted the affected restaurants, which confirmed the use of counterfeit currency and provided evidence, including receipts and fake bills.
Further investigation revealed the suspect had active warrants in Illinois for Burglary, Evading Arrest, and Forgery.
The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, with officers commending the swift resolution of the case and their collaboration with local businesses.
