Pedestrian Fatality at Loop 12 in Irving

Irving, Texas. July 17, 2009 – Irving Police reports a pedestrian fatality this morning at the 2000 block of S. State Loop 12.

The pedestrian, identified as Laviska Shenault (39) of Glenn Heights, Texas, had been a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway (southbound).

He got out of the vehicle and for an undetermined reason walked from west to east across the lanes of traffic. As he entered the inside lane he was struck by a silver 2003 F-150 pick-up, on its passenger side.  The truck was driven by a 38-year-ol female of Desoto. That contact caused the deceased to fall back and to the ground at which time he was run over by a grey 2003 Acura, driven by a 27-year-old male of Duncanville.  Officers say that he was possibly struck again by another vehicle after that.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if alcohol use by the pedestrian may have been involved. At this time investigators do not anticipate charges being filed on any drivers involved.

There has to be more to this story. If he was traveling southbound, the 2000 block is a little past Shady Grove where there is a gas station and a Braums on the right hand side, which is where the guy stopped his vehicle. Why would he decide to cross the highway to the other side, which has nothing there? Either he was drunk or someone wanted him dead.
