Cardwell Nurse Is Named Region 10 Nurse Of The Year

Irving, Texas. October 13, 2021 –

Kyra Manry always wanted to be a nurse. She, along with her brother, followed in the footsteps of her mother, who was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). 

Now in Manry’s 27th year at Cardwell Career Preparatory Center, she couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

“The most rewarding part of the job is when I can make someone feel better,” Manry says. “Then they don’t need a doctor which prevents them from leaving school.”

It’s her caring attitude and incredible wealth of knowledge that named her the state’s Region 10 Nurse of the Year.

“It’s a surprise and honor,” Manry said, speaking of the accolade. “It represents the appreciation for what all school nurses do every day. I’m delighted to represent our school nurses.”

This award is a big deal, and this is her second time to receive this honor. 

Every year, all of the educational regions across the state of Texas nominate candidates for School Nurse of the Year. This year, Region 10, to which Irving ISD pertains, reviewed applications and chose Manry as the region’s Nurse of the Year. The purpose of this award is to honor a nurse who demonstrates excellence in school nursing practice and leadership in school health. 

“I am extremely excited to hear Kyra Manry received the Region 10 School Nurse of the Year award,” proudly says Karyn Beauchamp, Irving ISD’s director of clinic and health services. “Ms. Manry is an exceptional school nurse serving at Barbara Cardwell Career Preparatory Center for the past 26 years. Her dedication and hard work have made a difference in the lives of students, staff and nursing colleagues. I am so very happy she won the Region 10 nursing award. She is a wonderful nurse and person! Irving ISD has been blessed with her service.”

What’s next for Manry? She’s planning to continue to do what she loves at Cardwell. 

“I’m going to keep working. I’m not planning on retiring,” Manry says. “I really love working on this campus. It’s a unique group of students, and it’s a good fit for me.”
