Bedford Police Team-up With Students To Prevent Catalytic Converter Thefts

Irving, Texas. May 9, 2022

The Bedford Police Department is teaming up with Gene A. Buinger Career & Technical Education Academy students to help prevent catalytic converter thefts!

On Saturday, May 14, registered Bedford residents can bring their vehicles to the school for students to engrave the vehicle’s VIN number on the catalytic converter and paint it with a high temperature engine paint.

Since only 2-3 lifts will be available for the student mechanics and it takes around 30 minutes for each vehicle, ONLY 15 vehicles will be able to be serviced on Saturday morning.

Bedford residents can register by emailing Sgt. Stillman at tyler.stillman@bedfordtx.gov.

The first 15 Bedford residents to register will receive a timeslot on Saturday to minimize the amount of waiting time. Each participant must confirm their timeslot, otherwise the timeslot will be given to the next resident on the waiting list.

Moving forward, the BPD will have catalytic converter deterrent kits available to checkout for Bedford residents. Each kit will include a cordless engraver, high temperature paint, and how-to instructions.
