Man Drowns in Joe Pool Lake; Grand Prairie Fire Department Recovers Body

Member of Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team

A 46-year-old man drowned Saturday morning, June 21, at Joe Pool Lake, after witnesses reported he did not resurface while swimming off a boat. The Grand Prairie Fire Department (GPFD) responded to the possible drowning at approximately 11:20 a.m.

The Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team conducted a search and successfully recovered the body of the male victim. Authorities noted that the deceased was not wearing a life vest. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity once next of kin have been notified.

As the lake season continues, the GPFD strongly urges the public to wear a life vest or an appropriate personal flotation device while in or near the water to prevent similar tragedies.
