PLANO, Texas—A coordinated effort by the Plano Police Department, involving drones, a K-9 unit, and multiple officers, resulted in the successful apprehension of a burglary suspect on Friday, August 8.
Plano Patrol Officers were dispatched to a business in the 900 block of K Avenue after the owner, who was monitoring live security footage, reported a male subject wearing a mask and stealing items.
Officers quickly established a perimeter around the building. With the suspect's last known location confirmed by the business owner, Officers Epstein and Miller deployed drones to assist in the search. Officer Lopez, positioned outside, heard movement that aligned with the drone's findings.
Using public address systems, officers issued commands for the suspect to exit, warning that a K-9 would be deployed if he did not comply. Officer Epstein located a heat signature via drone footage, confirming the suspect was hiding under boxes.
A contact team was formed, and Officer Leos and her K-9 partner, Teos, entered the building. K-9 Teos successfully located and engaged the suspect, who was then taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was treated for injuries sustained during the apprehension.
The Plano Police Department highlighted the teamwork displayed during the response, from drone deployment to perimeter control and K-9 support, as a reflection of its commitment to public safety.
