Dallas Police Release Details in Redbird Officer-Involved Shooting That Left Teen and Grandmother Injured

DALLAS, TX - The Dallas Police Department released new details Tuesday regarding an officer-involved shooting at a home in the Redbird area, marking the department’s second such shooting of 2026.

According to Dallas Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 8:41 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, in the 4300 block of Woodhollow Drive. Officers were dispatched after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance involving an armed individual at the residence.

Police said the caller reported that 18-year-old Tony Robinson was armed, refusing to put the weapon away, and had threatened to shoot his father and others inside the home. During the incident, Robinson locked himself inside a bathroom with his grandmother, who was attempting to prevent him from harming anyone.

When officers arrived, they were directed to the bathroom and informed that Robinson was inside and armed. Officers reported hearing an active disturbance coming from within the room.

Police said officers forced the bathroom door open, at which point Robinson confronted them while holding a handgun and pointed the weapon toward an officer. As an officer retreated for cover, an exchange of gunfire occurred.

Investigators said Robinson fired one round, which struck the officer’s ballistic vest. The officer returned fire, striking Robinson. Robinson’s grandmother, who was inside the bathroom at the time, was injured during the gunfire.

Officers immediately provided emergency medical aid until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived. Robinson was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. His grandmother was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and later released.

Police said the department is releasing relevant portions of body-worn camera footage in the interest of transparency.

The shooting is being investigated by the department’s Special Investigations Unit, which reviews all officer-involved shootings. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent investigation, as required, and the Office of Community Police Oversight has been notified and briefed.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, and authorities said details may change as forensic evidence, witness statements, and additional video are reviewed.
