ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — Five suspects are facing serious felony charges after authorities say they fired multiple rounds at law enforcement officers during an early-morning pursuit that stretched across several North Texas jurisdictions Thursday.
According to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 3:22 a.m. on February 26, 2026, when a deputy observed occupants of a vehicle actively shooting from the roadway near FM 875 and FM 663 in Midlothian.
When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, initiating a pursuit. Investigators say the occupants continued discharging firearms at deputies and assisting agencies as the chase moved into neighboring cities.
Pursuit Ends After Spike Strips, Crash
The pursuit ultimately entered Fort Worth, where Fort Worth Police Department officers joined the chase and also came under gunfire from the suspect vehicle.
Officers observed items being thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit. A firearm was later recovered in the area where those items were discarded.
Fort Worth officers successfully deployed spike strips, but the vehicle continued fleeing before eventually losing control and crashing onto its side near the 6300 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard, bringing the pursuit to an end.
Four suspects exited the vehicle and complied with commands. A fifth suspect failed to exit, prompting officers to deploy a drone to safely search the vehicle. Officers then located an unresponsive male inside.
Four suspects were transported to local hospitals. Authorities said none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. One Fort Worth officer was treated for a minor injury.
Charges Filed Against All Five Occupants
Following the crash, investigators secured the scene and executed a search warrant on the vehicle. Evidence recovered at the scene, combined with interviews, led authorities to file charges against all five occupants.
