IRVING, Texas — The Irving Police Department will increase patrols and enforcement efforts targeting impaired drivers beginning Friday for the St. Patrick's Week as part of a statewide campaign aimed at reducing alcohol related crashes.
The department will participate in a DWI Enforcement Initiative starting March 13 at 6 p.m. and continuing through March 18 at 4 a.m. The operation supports #EndTheStreakTX, a statewide effort focused on preventing daily traffic deaths on Texas roadways.
During the initiative, officers assigned to the department’s DWI Unit will focus on locating and arresting impaired drivers. Enforcement efforts will concentrate on areas and times when alcohol related crashes are more likely to occur.
Officials said the increased enforcement and visibility are intended to discourage drivers from getting behind the wheel while impaired.
The Irving Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation are urging drivers to plan ahead if they intend to drink alcohol. Authorities recommend using rideshare services, taxis, public transportation, or a designated driver instead of driving.
Police also ask the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 when it is safe to do so and to provide as much information as possible.
