DFW AIRPORT, Texas — Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and American Airlines have opened nine new gates as part of the ongoing transformation of Terminal C, providing additional capacity and a preview of the terminal's future design ahead of the busy summer travel season.

The newly opened gates include five fully rebuilt gates and four newly constructed gates, adding approximately 115,000 square feet of space to DFW's busiest terminal. Terminal C is used exclusively by American Airlines and is undergoing a complete reconstruction over the coming years.

Airport officials said the new gates are arranged in a pier configuration designed to increase operational capacity while introducing travelers to the next generation of the Terminal C experience.

The expansion includes electronic boarding gates, expanded seating areas, upgraded customer amenities, new concessions, power stations, improved wayfinding and higher ceilings intended to create a more open and modern environment for travelers.

DFW Airport Chief Executive Officer Chris McLaughlin said the project represents a major milestone in the airport's long-term growth plans and modernization efforts.

American Airlines Senior Vice President of DFW Operations Jim Moses said the expansion supports future growth while enhancing the customer experience at the airline's largest hub.

Construction of the new gate area utilized modular building technology, with six prefabricated modules transported across the airfield and installed at the project site. Airport officials said mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems were installed within the modules before they were moved into place, helping accelerate construction timelines.

The Terminal C expansion is the first set of new and rebuilt gates to open under DFW Forward, the airport's $12 billion capital improvement program.

Airport officials also highlighted progress on several other major infrastructure projects, including improvements to International Parkway, where new right-side terminal exits have replaced the airport's historic left-side exits. The roadway project was completed approximately five months ahead of schedule.

Additional projects include a new 1.65-mile east-west connector roadway linking Rental Car Drive and State Highway 360, expanded aircraft parking positions, ongoing airfield improvements and the recent opening of a new East Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting station.

DFW officials said the projects are designed to improve airport access, increase operational efficiency and support continued growth across one of the world's busiest airports.

The opening of the new gates comes as DFW prepares for increased summer travel and future international visitors, including soccer fans expected to travel through North Texas in the coming years.
