Two Irving Homes Caught Fire After Being Hit By Lightning

This past Monday night, thunderstorms rolled through Irving.  The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Dallas County. Lighting strikes were occurring all over the city and as a result, two houses caught fire within blocks of each other.

The home owners acted quickly, evacuated their homes and called 911.    While the storms were still running through the Irving Fire Department was out putting these fires out.  No injuries were reported.

It is estimated that a lightning bolt's temperature can reach 50,000 degrees. Odds are that if your home is hit, you will experience fire damage. Often you won't notice a fire caused by lightning right away; it can hide in attic spaces or inside walls.

The Irving Fire Department issued the following warning, "if you are ever concerned your house has been struck by lighting please proceed cautiously and call 911 to be safe. They can develop very quickly."
