Irving Fire Department Provides Information on Gas Odor Emergency Situation

On the evening of April 14, the Irving Fire Department responded to an abnormally large volume of natural gas investigations throughout the city. Per an update from Atmos Energy, the issue is believed to be from excessive levels of mercaptan, an odorant added to natural gas for identification purposes. The Irving Fire Department is addressing these calls as quickly as possible and is asking for residents to be patient.

Please remain vigilant, and if there is any reason to believe it is a gas leak, call 911 for assistance. The safety of our community is paramount.

Atmos has provided a 24-hour emergency phone number as an additional resource: (866) 322-8667.

We urge you to only use this if you are certain there is no active gas leak.
