Texas Accountability Grades for School Districts Released Today and Irving Rated Disappointingly

The Texas Education Agency on Monday released its first public school ratings in three years.

While the number of schools that received the highest rating increased statewide, several Irving ISD schools had the lowest rating of 'C'.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the state waived accountability ratings for the 2020-2021 school year.  All Texas public schools districts and campuses received the lable "Not Rated: Declared State of Disaster" for the 2020-2021 school year.

The Irving ISD had received an overall accountability rating of B for the 2018-2019 school year.

For the 2021-2022 school year, the overall rating remained at B.  The student achievement category and the closing the gaps category were both a C.  The school progress category rating was a B.

Irving, Nimitz and MacArthur rated a disappointing C.  Most of the middle schools in Irving also rated C with Crocket, De Zavala and Travis being the exception.

In comparison, several nearby districts rated much better than Irving.  The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and Carroll ISD had A overall ratings.  Trinity High School in Euless had A rating and Ranchview High School in Valley Ranch had a B rating.

This year's TEA ratings were done differently than in previous years because of the pandemic.  Instead of the usual A-F ratings, the agency gave only A-C ratings.

Districts and schools that would have received a D or F instead received a "Not Rated" label.

Irving ISD reported a total student enrollment of 32,339 in 37 schools.

It is clear from these ratings that the Irving ISD has some work to do.
