Las Palmas Race Park

While thoroughbred racing is popular across the world, the most popular type of racing in Texas comes in the form of quarter racing. One of the most popular tracks within the state is Las Palmas Race Park. Racing at the track typically takes place on a Sunday, with most months seeing at least two race days for fans to attend.

As well as enjoying a day of high-quality racing action, it is a perfect day out of the whole family with a Go Kart track also found. It is an ideal place to spend a Sunday afternoon with the family, as there is a wide selection of food and drink stands, while visitors are also encouraged to bring their own picnics. It is also a perfect location to watch live racing action from across the United States.

Gillespie County Race Track

One of the most popular venues for thoroughbred racing in Texas comes in the form of Gillespie County Race Track. The track is open all year round, and it is a perfect place to witness some of the best equine stars in the sport compete. Both thoroughbred and quarter horses compete at the track throughout the season, with the most exciting race meets of the year taking place over the summer months.

There are special listed stakes races scheduled, as well as trials and futurities for the younger horses within the state. It is also a perfect location for all race fans in Texas, as visitors can watch all the best racing from tracks across the country at the Race Barn. This is open between Thursday and Sunday from 1pm, with on-course bookmakers available to take bets on the races that are staged. It is an excellent bar accommodated to race fans, and it is the perfect venue to watch Triple Crown races in Texas.

Retama Park

The most successful race track in Texas comes in the form of Retama Park. Once again, this is a track for quarter racing, with racing action getting underway in June. The first meet ends in August, before the action resumes in September until November. Retama Park remains a staple for the horse racing community in the area, and has been since it was opened in April 1995. Horse racing was first staged at the course on April 7. However, there was a little backlash from fans surrounding this start day, as it opened nearly two years behind the predicted date.

The track has developed throughout its history, with turf racing also now being staged at Retama. It could be an exciting period for the track, as it was purchased by Penn Entertainment back in 2018, with the buyers pledging to invest funds into the grounds. The track is located in Selma, Texas, and once again offers simulcast racing options for fans when racing at Retama isn’t being staged. Therefore, fans of the sport can visit Retama to watch Triple Crown racing around likeminded people. Bets can also be placed at the course on all tracks from around the United States.
