Grand Prairie and Dallas Celebrate Completion of $29.4 Million Camp Wisdom Road Improvement Project

Officials from the City of Grand Prairie, City of Dallas, and Dallas County celebrated the grand opening of the $29.4 million Camp Wisdom Road widening and reconstruction improvement project on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The improved four-lane Camp Wisdom Road spans two miles from Grand Prairie to the western edge of Dallas. The project expanded Camp Wisdom from a two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane divided concrete thoroughfare from Robinson to Belt Line Road. Key components of the project include a 13-foot-wide cycling and pedestrian trail on the south side, a reinforced girder bridge at Mountain Creek, two Contech Bridgecor arch bridges, 46,000 square feet of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls, storm drainage improvements, new traffic signal enhancements at Carrier Parkway, and a signal upgrade at Belt Line Road.

"The City of Grand Prairie appreciates the cooperation of Dallas County, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the City of Dallas on this project," said Ron Jensen, City of Grand Prairie mayor. "Camp Wisdom is a vital east/west thoroughfare through our city. It's important for us to keep it a safe and accessible roadway for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians."

"This much-needed reconstruction of Camp Wisdom is a great example of what our cities and the County can accomplish when we work together," said Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia. "Through our collaborative efforts, we are creating a new gateway between Grand Prairie and Dallas, which will stimulate the economy and make a positive impact on the quality of life for every resident and business owner in this area."

The project's funding was made possible by $12.1 million from Dallas County, $5.5 million from the City of Grand Prairie, $1.4 million from the City of Dallas, and $10.4 million from the Texas Department of Transportation Regional Toll Revenue.
