Two Irving ISD Educators Honored as CATCH Texas Champions for Promoting Child Health

Dr. Sandi Cravens and Marcela Quiroz

The Irving Independent School District (ISD) is pleased to announce the recognition and congratulations extended to Dr. Sandi Cravens, Health & Physical Education Coordinator, and Marcela Quiroz, Physical Education/Health Teacher at Johnston Elementary School, for their recent achievement as CATCH Texas Champions.

CATCH, an acronym for Coordinated Approach To Child Health, collaborates with school districts to foster school health initiatives. The CATCH Texas Champions award is bestowed upon educators and administrators who demonstrate unwavering commitment to creating healthy environments for students within their districts.

At the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education and Dance (TAHPERD) annual conference in Fort Worth earlier this month, Dr. Cravens and Ms. Quiroz were honored as two of five CATCH Champions.

Ms. Quiroz expressed her appreciation for the Coordinated Approach To Child Health program, stating, “The program has been rewarding to watch flourish from students and faculty into home and community. We are so lucky to be a part of a district that values and supports comprehensive child health. Students are staying active and making healthier choices, thanks to the CATCH team and our committed leaders. I am so very happy to be a part of this.”

Dr. Cravens echoed similar sentiments about the collaboration with CATCH, saying, “It’s been such a pleasure working with CATCH over the past several years. Their resources and support have been instrumental in helping our teachers facilitate health education for their students and families, and healthy environments on their campuses. Our health and physical education teachers’ hard work, passion, and dedication have been an invaluable force in promoting healthy lifestyles in the Irving ISD community. I also want to congratulate Marcela and recognize her for her leadership in our wellness journey. She has been instrumental in our success.”
