The fifth passenger remains in critical condition.

According to witness statements, detectives believe the driver of the red Dodge Charger was racing another vehicle, a white Dodge Charger Daytona, at a high rate of speed. The white Charger fled the scene after the collision. The driver of the red Dodge Charger, identified as Jaime Mesa, 20, of Irving, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mesa is in police custody at the hospital and has been charged with four counts of Racing on a Highway Causing Death, four counts of Manslaughter, one count of Racing on a Highway Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Later that evening, at around 10:30 p.m., detectives arrested the driver of the white Charger, identified as Anthony Morales, 22, at his residence without incident. Morales is charged with four counts of Racing on a Highway Causing Death and one count of Racing on a Highway Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

The identities of the deceased will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office once the next of kin have been notified. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
