* Immediately after selecting James Riley in the Expansion Draft, Montreal traded Riley to Chivas USA in exchange for Justin Braun and Gerson Mayen.
After the conclusion of the Expansion Draft, MLS conducted a draft of waived players, open to all 19 clubs. The Philadelphia Union selected former Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Nizar Khalfan. Khalfan was the only waived player selected.
