UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Santiago Lopez Morales of Las Vegas, NV. Detectives are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. The motive for the shooter’s actions and his identity remain under investigation.

A man was found fatally shot in the parking lot of the Motel 6 located in the 12700 block of LBJ Freeway early Friday morning, June 20, 2025. Garland Police officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 5:15 AM.
Upon arrival, officers located the male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim's identity has not yet been confirmed.
Preliminary information suggests a disturbance in the motel parking lot escalated to gunfire. Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and are actively working to determine the events leading up to the shooting.
