Animal Cruelty Suspect Identified and Arrested

As a result of media coverage of this case, detectives received multiple tips and identified the suspect as Joseph Ray Schell, 60 years of age. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Schell and took him into custody at approximately 4:30 p.m. today. He is currently in the Irving City Jail on a charge of Cruelty to Nonlivestock Animals (State Jail Felony).

According to Irving police, "the investigation into the details and motive in this case is still very active. The Irving Police Department is grateful to the local media and the community for enabling us to make an immediate identification and arrest in this case."

The released warrant of arrest stated that Irving Police Officers were dispatched on February 27th to 1818 W. Irving Blvd referencing a deceased dog.  The dog was found tied to a dumpster and stabbed multipled times.   After the suspect's surveillance video photo was released to the media, Irving Police received a tip from a citizen that knows the defendant by name and sight, identifying him as the person in the video.
