In a devastating incident this morning, January 23, 2024, at around 9:20 AM, a collision unfolded at the intersection of Fieldcrest and Jupiter Rd, resulting in the loss of life.
The event involved a maroon Buick LeSabre traveling eastbound on Fieldcrest at Jupiter Rd. Preliminary information suggests that the Buick's driver experienced a medical episode, leading to a loss of control. The Buick collided with a Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Jupiter Rd.
The incident took a more tragic turn as the Buick continued through the entrance of an apartment complex opposite Fieldcrest Dr. The vehicle crashed into an apartment building in the 1700 block of N. Jupiter Rd.
A resident inside the apartment during the collision was struck by the Buick. The Garland Fire Department responded to the scene, transporting the resident to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the resident, identified as 71-year-old Plautila Aguirre, was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Buick sustained minor injuries, was transported to the hospital, and has since been released. The driver is reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The driver of the Nissan, struck by the Buick, emerged from the incident unharmed.
As the investigation continues, no criminal charges are anticipated at this time.
