New service allows Irving residents to keep tabs on criminal activity

BY IRVING WEEKLY STAFF

Irving, Texas. August 31, 2011

Although crime in Irving is at its lowest in recorded history, the Irving Police Department is partnering with www.crimereports.com to allow residents to view crime data online. The crime-mapping website compiles information on crimes that have occurred in Irving by incident type, time and location, and marks them on a map of the city. It also allows residents to view reporting districts and police beats.

“Implementing this technology is just another way the Irving Police Department is maintaining transparency for residents,” said Officer John Argumaniz. “The website offers real-time, up-to-date information on crimes occurring in the city.”

Residents also can sign up for crime alerts to notify them of incidents in their neighborhood. Access the Irving map by visiting www.cityofirving.org/police and selecting the “CrimeReports” map at the bottom of the page. For more information, call (972) 721-3515.
