A 22-year-old man died early Monday morning in a collision involving a passenger car and an 18-wheeler on eastbound Interstate 30 in Arlington.
At approximately 2:23 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, Arlington Police Department officers responded to the 2600 block of East I-30 following reports of a major crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a passenger vehicle was stopped in the center lane of eastbound I-30 for an undetermined reason and without its lights activated. An 18-wheeler traveling in the same direction was unable to maneuver to avoid the stopped vehicle due to another vehicle in an adjacent lane and was unable to stop in time, colliding with the rear of the passenger car.
The 22-year-old male driver of the stopped vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities reported finding open containers of alcoholic beverages inside his vehicle.
The driver of the 18-wheeler remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. At this time, no charges are expected to be filed against the 18-wheeler driver.
The eastbound lanes of I-30 were reduced to a single lane for several hours as officers conducted their investigation and worked to clear the roadway.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once his next of kin have been properly notified.
