BURLESON, TX - A late-night shooting during what police say was a drug transaction left one 17-year-old dead and another wounded Sunday at Bailey Lake.

Officers were called to the parking lot around 11:33 p.m. on December 7 after reports of gunfire. They arrived to find a 17-year-old in the driver seat of a vehicle, unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics and officers tried to revive him, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A second 17-year-old boy, also struck by gunfire, was found with a wound to his leg. He was taken to another hospital for treatment.

According to police, early statements and evidence suggest the shooting happened during a narcotics deal involving three suspects. Investigators quickly identified two of the three and located one of them at his home in Burleson. The 17-year-old was taken into custody after officers found him sitting in a vehicle parked in his driveway.

Detectives say the teen admitted his involvement during an interview. He was arrested on suspicion of Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery and booked into the Johnson County Law Enforcement Center.

The second identified suspect and a third, still-unidentified suspect have not been found. Police are withholding their names while the investigation continues.

Authorities believe the violence stemmed from criminal activity between the people involved and say there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
