ARLINGTON, TX – After an eight-year investigation, the Arlington Police Department has arrested 29-year-old Devin Cameron-Mack in connection with the 2017 murder of 20-year-old Justin Dotson. Cameron-Mack, who was already in custody at the Tarrant County Jail for an unrelated offense, was served a warrant for one count of Capital Murder and one count of Aggravated Robbery. His bond has been set at $1 million.
On October 4, 2017, at approximately 7:32 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Valleywood Drive following reports of a shooting at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, witnesses directed police to Dotson who was found lying unresponsive with a gunshot wound inside his apartment. Despite efforts to save him, Dotson was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later determined that Dotson had been targeted during an attempted robbery connected to suspected narcotics activity.
During the initial investigation, crime scene investigators collected multiple pieces of physical evidence from the apartment. Among them was a blood stain belonging to an unknown individual. DNA testing of the sample produced a profile that was entered into the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) but did not generate a match at the time.
In November 2025, the DNA profile matched Cameron-Mack’s recently uploaded sample. Detectives attempted to interview Cameron-Mack, who denied involvement in the crime. Following this, investigators obtained a court-authorized search warrant to collect an additional DNA sample, which confirmed the match to the evidence recovered at the scene.
After consulting with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, detectives filed criminal charges. Cameron-Mack remains in custody at the Tarrant County Jail, with his bond set at $1 million.
