DALLAS, TX - The Dallas Police Department is seeking the public's assistance following a fatal assault early Sunday morning in Northwest Dallas.
The Incident
On Sunday, January 11, 2026, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance call in the 10200 block of Shady Trail, an industrial and commercial area located near the intersection of I-35E and W. Northwest Hwy.
Upon arrival, first responders found the victim, identified as 54-year-old Sergio Lopez, suffering from a severe head injury. Preliminary findings suggest that an unknown suspect struck Lopez in the head during the disturbance.
Investigation and Death
Dallas Fire-Rescue rushed Lopez to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and detectives have not yet released a description of the suspect. The Dallas Police Department is currently documenting the ongoing homicide investigation under case number 005063-2026.
Public Assistance Requested
Homicide detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has video surveillance from the Shady Trail area to come forward.
