Farmers Branch Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Apartment Shooting

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting inside an apartment Sunday afternoon.

Officers with the Farmers Branch Police Department responded around 1:30 p.m. on February 15, 2026, to the 11600 block of Lago Vista West after receiving two separate 911 calls reporting a shooting inside an apartment. One call was placed by the victim’s sister, and the other by the suspect.

When officers arrived, they made contact at the residence and ordered the suspect to exit the apartment. He complied and was taken into custody without incident.

Inside the apartment, officers found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Joel Brown Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from a confrontation that began when Brown and his sister arrived at the apartment they shared with the suspect and were denied entry. An argument reportedly broke out between the suspect and his mother. During the dispute, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm.

According to police, Brown intervened and was shot multiple times by his nephew. The suspect’s mother was not injured.

Dayvion Murray, 22, has been charged with murder. His bond has been set at $500,000. The investigation remains ongoing.
