Suspects in Custody After Shooting at Deputies During Ellis County Pursuit

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — Multiple suspects are in custody following an early morning pursuit in which gunfire was directed at law enforcement officers Thursday in Ellis County.

At approximately 3:22 a.m. on February 26, 2026, an Ellis County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed occupants of a vehicle firing weapons from the roadway near FM 875 and FM 663 in Midlothian.

When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, initiating a pursuit. Authorities say the occupants continued discharging firearms at deputies during the chase. Preliminary information indicates suspects also fired at additional responding officers as the pursuit moved into neighboring jurisdictions.

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the incident. The pursuit came to an end at the 6300 block of Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth after Fort Worth Police Department officers successfully deployed tire spikes, disabling the vehicle.

Officials reported no deputies or officers were injured.

A total of five suspects were inside the vehicle. Four suspects complied with officer commands and exited the vehicle.

The fifth suspect did not exit the vehicle; therefore, a drone was deployed to approach and search the vehicle.  Once officers deemed it was safe, officers approached and found an unresponsive male.

Four suspects were taken to a local hospital, which included the unresponsive suspect. According to FWPD, none of the injuries appear to be life threatening.  The fifth suspect refused medical treatment and is in custody. One Fort Worth Police Officer was treated for a minor injury.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
