Hurst Police Say Excessive Force Complaint From January Traffic Stop Was Unfounded

HURST, Texas — The Hurst Police Department says an internal investigation into allegations of excessive force during a January traffic stop has concluded, with the complaint determined to be unfounded.

According to the department, officers conducted a traffic stop on Jan. 16, 2026, that resulted in an arrest. A formal complaint was filed four days later, on Jan. 20, alleging excessive use of force by officers during the incident.

An Internal Affairs investigation was opened and conducted to review the claims. Police said the investigation found the allegations to be unfounded, and the case has since been closed.

Officials acknowledged community concerns about the incident and said the department is committed to transparency.

The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office is continuing to investigate the charges related to the original traffic stop. Because of that ongoing review, police said additional details cannot be released at this time.

The Hurst Police Department said it remains committed to protecting the community and enforcing local, state and federal laws while maintaining open communication with the public.
