ARLINGTON, Texas — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of his grandmother, who was found unresponsive on her apartment patio in North Arlington, police said.
Officers responded around 4:40 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Carriage House Circle after a family member discovered 68-year-old Rita Marie Jackson lying on the patio covered with a blanket. Paramedics determined she had been shot and pronounced her dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives learned the victim had recently argued with her grandson, Rontrell Jackson, over the loss of his allowance money.
When questioned by detectives, Rontrell Jackson admitted to shooting the victim earlier that morning inside the apartment, then dragging her body onto the patio, according to police.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging him with one count of murder. He was taken into custody and booked into the Arlington City Jail. The following day he was transferred to the Tarrant County Jail and his bond was set at $750,000.
A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered inside the apartment, investigators said.
