IRVING, Texas — A man is in custody after breaking into two car dealerships along State Highway 183 in the early morning hours of March 25, police said.
Officers responded around 2:13 a.m. to Toyota of Irving in the 1900 block of West SH-183 after an alarm indicated glass break activation on both sides of the building. Upon arrival, an officer observed a man entering through a shattered west-side door.
The suspect was quickly detained after exiting through an attached bay door. Police said he was found in possession of a stolen key fob belonging to a vehicle on the dealership’s back lot.
The suspect was later identified through fingerprinting at the Irving Jail as 39-year-old Timothy Kwaun Couser. Authorities said he also had outstanding warrants in multiple states, including a confirmed warrant out of Harris County, Texas for assault causing bodily injury.
Investigators later connected Couser to an earlier burglary that same morning at Auto Haus Imports, located in the 2000 block of West SH-183.
According to police, surveillance footage showed a man entering the dealership property around 12:39 a.m. The suspect was seen going into the garage area, sitting inside a BMW 428i, and then entering 10 other vehicles on the lot.
The footage also showed the suspect removing license plates from a 2011 Toyota Sienna and placing them onto a Porsche Cayenne before sitting inside the SUV for several minutes. He then moved to a Dodge Caravan before crossing Texas Dri and walking toward the Toyota dealership, where he was later arrested.
An officer reviewing the footage identified Couser based on his booking photo.
Couser was booked into the Irving Jail and charged with two counts of burglary of a building, criminal mischief, failure to identify as a fugitive from justice, and the outstanding Harris County warrant.
He was transferred to the Dallas County Jail on March 26 and remains in custody.
