Registered Sex Offender Arrested in Irving Gym Parking Lot Indecent Exposure Case

Jonathan William Ledbetter

IRVING, Texas — A registered sex offender has been arrested after allegedly exposing himself to a woman in a gym parking lot in Irving.

Police were dispatched around 10:22 a.m. on March 29 to the Fitness Connection at Irving Mall after a report of indecent exposure. Officers spoke with a 25-year-old woman who said she was sitting in her vehicle when she noticed a man in a nearby red SUV exposing himself and engaging in lewd behavior.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle, which did not have license plates. As an officer drove up responding to the scene, he spotted a red Mazda CX-3 with no license plate, which matched the description of the suspect. The driver appeared to notice the officer and make a quick turn towards the service road of SH-183. The officer followed and made a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Jonathan William Ledbetter of Winnsboro, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The officer observed indicators consistent with the reported incident. He noticed the driver's hands were shiny as if they had a lubricant applied and some odd behavior. The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle. Once Ledbetter exited, the police report said that he was wearing black shorts with no underwear and had a noticeable physical erection. The officer immediately took him into custody.

Ledbetter was booked into the Irving Jail and charged with Indecent Exposure with Two or More Previous Convictions, a state felony. Authorities said he has three prior convictions for indecent exposure in East Texas and is a registered sex offender who was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his arrest.

On March 30th, Ledbetter was transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where an additional charge of Parole Violation was added. Last year, on January 30, 2025, Ledbetter was released from prison. According to court records, he had been convicted for an Attempt to Commit Injury to a Child or Disabled Individual. The victim was a 16-year-old girl. He was released on parole with the requirement to register as a sex offender.
