FRISCO, Texas — A masked robbery suspect was quickly tracked and arrested after fleeing a Walmart on Preston Road, thanks to coordinated police work and drone technology.
Frisco Police responded March 31 to a reported robbery at the store, where a suspect threatened an employee with a weapon and demanded money. After obtaining cash, the suspect fled on foot toward a nearby neighborhood behind the store.
The suspect was described as a Black male wearing a gray sweatshirt, gloves, blue jeans, and a ski mask.
Officers quickly established a perimeter and deployed a drone to assist in the search. Using aerial surveillance, police located the suspect moving through alleyways in the neighborhood. Authorities said the suspect appeared fatigued while attempting to evade capture.
When officers ordered him to stop, the suspect ran into a fenced backyard and attempted to hide. Guided by real-time drone footage, officers tracked his movements and closed in on the location with weapons drawn.
The suspect eventually exited the yard, where officers took him into custody without further incident. Police also recovered the stolen property.
